Manchester United Moves Quickly to Secure Matthijs de Ligt Amid Competition from Rival Premier League Clubs

Manchester United has entered advanced negotiations to sign Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich, with the Dutch defender showing a strong interest in joining the Premier League giants at Old Trafford. However, the Red Devils are faced with a significant challenge as they are only willing to offer half of Bayern Munich’s valuation of the player.

According to Christian Falk, a respected Bundesliga analyst, Bayern Munich values de Ligt at £59.4 million (70 million euros), while Manchester United is preparing to bid approximately £29.7 million (35 million euros) for the center-back. Falk, who is the Head of Football for Bild/Sport Bild, shared insights on the ongoing discussions:

“FC Bayern needs to sell players to continue their purchasing strategy. Erik ten Hag, who is currently in contract extension talks with Manchester United, is eager to bring Matthijs de Ligt to Old Trafford. Despite Bayern’s demand for up to 70 million euros, Manchester United is set on offering half that amount.”

Bayern Munich’s intent to bolster their central defense is evident with their interest in Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen, the reigning Bundesliga champions. Two years ago, Bayern invested heavily, around 77 million euros, to secure de Ligt’s services from Juventus, a top Italian Serie A team.

Despite not being a consistent starter at Bayern, de Ligt’s potential departure for a fee significantly lower than what was paid for him would be surprising. Erik ten Hag, who previously managed de Ligt at Ajax and witnessed his exceptional performance, hopes to rejuvenate the defender’s career at Manchester United.

If Manchester United successfully negotiates the deal for £29.7 million, it would be considered a remarkable acquisition. This move underscores United’s commitment to reinforcing their squad under ten Hag’s leadership, aiming to reclaim their status as a dominant force in English football.
