DEAL COMPLETED: Manchester United have reached total agreement with player after club agreed to lower the transfer fee from £80m to £60m,bid approved as announcement will be done tomorrow morning

Manchester United has successfully completed a crucial transfer deal after negotiations led to a significant reduction in the transfer fee. Originally set at £80 million, the fee was lowered to £60 million, and all parties have now reached a total agreement. The final approval has been granted, and the official announcement is expected to be made tomorrow morning.

This summer, Manchester United has been linked with various potential signings, yet only a few have materialized. So far, the arrivals of Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro stand out as the club’s primary acquisitions in this transfer window.

Manchester United is in the midst of a challenging period where several areas within the squad need strengthening to create a truly competitive team. However, it’s unrealistic to expect all necessary reinforcements to be secured in a single transfer window, meaning the club must prioritize certain positions and improvements gradually over time.

Despite this, there are concerns about the club’s strategy, particularly regarding the potential signing of Ivan Toney. With the squad already featuring capable forwards like Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee, the decision to pursue Toney, especially at this stage, raises questions. According to Football Insider, Manchester United has made a move for Brentford’s striker after his market value was slashed to £50 million.

Interestingly, the same publication reported a previous valuation decrease by Brentford, who initially reduced Toney’s price from £90 million to £60 million. While Toney is undoubtedly a talented player who could add value to the squad, the timing of this potential signing is debatable. It might have made more sense before Zirkzee’s arrival, particularly considering that Erik ten Hag, the Manchester United manager, is unlikely to adopt a two-striker system like Simone Inzaghi.

Currently, Manchester United’s project is still in a developmental stage, unlike Manchester City’s more advanced position. Therefore, it is crucial for the Red Devils to be selective in their acquisitions. Strengthening their central defense and securing a defensive midfielder should be higher priorities than adding another forward.

While some fans and analysts argue that Toney may not be the ideal signing for Manchester United this summer, the final decision lies with the club’s decision-makers, including Dan Ashworth and his team. It remains to be seen how they will navigate this complex transfer window and whether they will opt to bring Toney into the fold.
