“With the goal at his mercy, 18-year-old Marc Guiu seemed certain to seal Chelsea’s victory. But in a stunning twist, Servette’s goalkeeper, Jeremie Frick, thwarted him in a last-second effort, leaving the score hanging at 2-0.”
For Chelsea fans, watching a striker miss a seemingly certain goal is hardly a novel experience. However, even by those familiar standards, Marc Guiu’s recent miss stood out as particularly surprising.
During Chelsea’s match against Servette, the 18-year-old forward had a golden chance to double his team’s lead, but he couldn’t capitalize on it.
The opportunity was one Guiu crafted himself through his tenacity. He pressed Servette’s goalkeeper, Jeremie Frick, aggressively, dispossessing him with no defenders left to cover the goal.
With only the goalkeeper to beat, Guiu found himself in a prime position to slot the ball into the net.
Yet, in an unexpected turn of events, Guiu managed to strike Frick, who, in a last-ditch effort, was desperately sliding in to prevent the goal.
Frick didn’t just deny Guiu on that occasion but went on to thwart him twice more in quick succession, ensuring Chelsea remained ahead by just a single goal.
