Renowned journalist Duncan Castles reported that Manchester United has reached an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for the transfer of the Uruguayan midfielder. The deal is anticipated to be valued at an initial €50 million, with an additional €10 million contingent on performance-related bonuses. Ugarte is expected to travel to England shortly to undergo a medical examination.
Upon completion, Ugarte will be Manchester United’s fifth acquisition of the summer transfer window, following the signings of Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Noussair Mazraoui, and Matthijs de Ligt. The 23-year-old midfielder sparked rumors about his potential move by posting a simple eyes emoji on social media. The post quickly gained traction, amassing 34,000 likes within just an hour. His compatriot and former United winger Facundo Pellistri added fuel to the speculation by responding to the post with his own emojis, including a red heart. Pellistri recently parted ways with United to join the Greek club Panathinaikos.

United’s decision to pursue Ugarte was influenced by their move to offload Scott McTominay to Napoli for €30 million. This transfer, pending the finalization of McTominay’s personal terms, will mark the end of his 22-year tenure at Manchester United. McTominay, who rose through the club’s youth ranks to become a key player under multiple managers, including Erik ten Hag, is now set to embark on a new chapter in his career with the Italian side.
