“If this club can give me this, I promise the fans that we will win the league this season. Its just left for thw club to give me what I want”-Ruben Amorim breaks silence on becoming Man Utd manager with promise to supporters after reveals what he wants from the club to win the Premier League.
Ruben Amorim has made his first comments following the announcement of his appointment as Manchester United’s new head coach. On Friday, the club confirmed that Amorim has signed a contract that runs until June 2027, with the potential for a one-year extension. However, he will remain with Sporting Lisbon until November 11, as United agreed to pay an additional fee to shorten his 30-day notice period.
Ahead of Sporting Lisbon’s Liga Portugal clash against Estrela, Amorim briefly commented on his new position. Norwegian journalist Frederik Filtvedt, affiliated with Manchester United’s Scandinavian supporters’ club, reached out to him by email, where Amorim expressed his gratitude, reportedly replying, “Thank you very much for your support. I will not let you down.” Amorim is expected to address the appointment formally following Sporting’s match.
Amorim has reportedly started planning for transfers, with sources like GiveMeSport suggesting that he has identified some initial targets to bolster United’s squad. One key player on his radar is Wolves left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri, who would fit well into the three-defender formation Amorim successfully implemented in Portugal. Ait-Nouri is reportedly valued at around £60 million. Additionally, United are rumored to be considering a move for Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres, a recent signing from Coventry who has quickly become one of the top scorers in global football.
Amorim’s first match with United is scheduled for November 24, when the team will face Ipswich Town away. Until then, former United player Ruud van Nistelrooy will serve as interim manager for three home games. United’s upcoming matches include a Premier League showdown with Chelsea on Sunday, followed by a Europa League clash with PAOK, where they aim to break a series of three consecutive draws. They will then play Leicester in the Premier League on November 10, just before an international break, which will serve as the final preparation period before Amorim officially takes the helm at Manchester United.
