Mauricio Pochettino coy on transfer influence at Chelsea amid Conor Gallagher speculation: ‘I know my place’

Mauricio Pochettino recently found himself fielding questions about his potential involvement in transfer decisions at Chelsea, particularly regarding the uncertain future of Conor Gallagher. The Argentine coach, however, seemed hesitant to delve into this topic, emphasizing his role primarily as the team’s coach.

When asked about his influence over Gallagher’s fate at Stamford Bridge, Pochettino reiterated his position, stating, “I am the coach; that’s where my responsibilities lie.” Gallagher, who has showcased impressive form with four goals in five games, including a crucial match-winner against Leeds, has only 14 months left on his contract, sparking intense speculation about his next move.

Despite the victory over Leeds alleviating some pressure on both Chelsea and Pochettino, with hopes of FA Cup success still alive, Pochettino remained non-committal regarding Gallagher’s future, pointing out that such decisions are beyond his purview, stating, “I cannot be involved in this. It’s only between the club and Conor to negotiate.”

Pressed further on his lack of involvement, Pochettino reiterated his stance, explaining, “I know my role.” He declined to comment on whether he believes his input should be sought in such matters, deflecting the question by emphasizing his focus on coaching and team selection.

Addressing his relationship with the club’s owners and sporting directors, Pochettino expressed satisfaction, stating, “We enjoy a positive relationship with them.” However, he remained firm in his stance that his primary responsibility lies in coaching the team and guiding them to victory on the pitch.
