Liverpool would be the ideal choice for him” – Brighton player advises picking the Reds instead of Chelsea
In August 2023, he joined Brighton & Hove Albion, but during his first season with the club, he found it difficult to secure a regular place in the starting eleven. Despite his efforts, he struggled to make a consistent impact on the team. However, things have taken a positive turn for him this season under the management of Fabian Hürzeler. With Hürzeler at the helm, the midfielder has managed to establish himself as an essential part of the squad, making 27 appearances across all competitions so far.
Due to his outstanding performances, several top English clubs have taken notice of him. Clubs such as Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester City have all expressed interest in acquiring his services.
Speaking about the young midfielder’s rapid development, former Cameroon international Bernard Tchoutang shared his perspective in an interview with Africa Foot. Tchoutang admitted that he initially believed it would take Baleba at least two years to fully adapt to the demands of the Premier League. However, he is pleasantly surprised by how quickly the player has adjusted and progressed at Brighton.
According to reports, Brighton are well aware of the growing interest from elite clubs and are demanding a significant transfer fee for Baleba.
Tchoutang believes that while Baleba is ready for a move to a bigger club, spending another season at Brighton would not necessarily slow down his development.
“The transfer fee won’t be a distraction for him,” Tchoutang explained. “He possesses a strong mentality, has the unwavering support of his parents, and isn’t the type to be influenced by large sums of money. The most important question is whether he is truly prepared to take the next step and join a top club this summer.”
“Staying at Brighton for one more season wouldn’t harm his progress, but in my opinion, he is ready for a move. If he were playing in a different league, I might advise him to stay longer and gain more experience. However, since this is already his second season in England, and top clubs are actively pursuing him, it’s clear that they recognize his talent and potential.”
Tchoutang went on to express his preference for Baleba’s next destination, backing Liverpool as the ideal club for him instead of Chelsea. He explained his reasoning by emphasizing the environment and playing style at Liverpool.
“For me, Liverpool would be the perfect club for him!” Tchoutang said enthusiastically.
“It’s not just because they are currently the best team in the Premier League or one of the strongest clubs in Europe. Arne Slot’s style of play would complement Baleba’s abilities perfectly. Liverpool’s high-intensity pressing, attacking football, and commitment to developing young players would allow him to thrive and reach his full potential.”
He also highlighted Chelsea’s struggles this season as a reason why they may not be the best option for Baleba at this time.
“Chelsea are going through an average season and are not currently at the same level as Liverpool or Arsenal. I genuinely believe Baleba has the qualities needed to play for one of the best teams in England. He is ready for the challenge, and he is working hard to make it happen.”
